Luxury on the Water: Cockwells’ Latest Duchy 45 Sale Signals a Big Year Ahead
Mylor-based boatbuilder Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding has made waves at Boot Düsseldorf, securing the sale of another Duchy 45 – the latest model in its renowned Duchy Motor Launches range.
This new sale, to a British buyer, sets a promising tone for an ambitious year, as the company expands operations and unveils more cutting-edge designs.
Duchy 45: Space, Style, and Performance
Designed for those who seek both classic elegance and modern luxury, the Duchy 45 retains the signature polished finish and timeless lines that define the Duchy range. However, it offers more space than any previous Duchy model, making it an enticing choice for those looking for comfort on the water.
Key features include:
- An expansive saloon with full-standing headroom
- A super king-size master cabin with an en-suite
- Customisation options for two or three double cabins
- A stylish and dependable cruiser for long journeys
The latest Duchy 45 will initially be used to explore the west coast of Scotland, showcasing its capabilities in varied cruising conditions.
“We can safely say that our time at Boot Düsseldorf was a huge success as we concluded our week of exhibiting with the sale of another brand new Duchy 45,” said Cockwells’ Founder and Sales Director, Dave Cockwell.
“Elegant, contemporary and roomy, with as much space inside as out, this new model delivers modern luxury, 360-degree vistas and all the latest engineering technology that you would expect of a craft built in 2025.”
Duchy 35 Makes European Debut
Also drawing attention at Boot Düsseldorf was Cockwells’ award-winning Duchy 35, which made its European debut at the prestigious boat show. Visitors from over 30 countries admired the model, which, like all Duchy Motor Launches, can be tailored to each client’s specifications.
The model on display featured:
- A single master cabin layout
- A galley down below
- A spacious cockpit and airy saloon with ample seating, a drinks refrigerator, and a sunroof for socialising
The twin cabin layout remains a popular alternative for buyers looking for more sleeping space.
“We saw huge interest in our Duchy and Hardy yachts, and gained some very promising leads,” added Dave. “We now have several sea trials planned in the coming weeks and months to show potential new clients how well our boats handle on the water.”
Expanding for the Future: £2.9m Growth Project
Cockwells is not only celebrating sales success but is also expanding its South West Shipyard operation at Ponsharden. Thanks to £1.88m in funding from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme, managed by Cornwall Council, the company is set to:
- Double production capacity
- Create 38 new jobs over three years
- Reduce customer delivery times to under 12 months
- Increase spending with local suppliers to £3m per year
The £2.9m expansion will enhance Cockwells’ facilities with:
- Two modernised fit-out halls
- A new joinery shop
- A large-scale paint booth
- Upgraded office, store, and reception spaces
As part of its commitment to sustainable growth, the company will also invest in solar power, geothermal heating, and the planting of 80 trees on site, reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 26,000 tonnes.
More to Come in 2025
Cockwells has an exciting year ahead, with several new models set to launch, including:
- Hardy 45 European
