Locals Flock to Falmouth Quizzes – You Won’t Believe How Much They Raised!
Over £880 Raised for Lifesaving Charities in Fifth Year of Fundraising Quizzes
Falmouth’s Harbour Lights Restaurant has wrapped up another successful season of fundraising quizzes, raising a total of £884.60 for two local lifesaving charities.
The popular winter series – now in its fifth year – saw over 100 people take part across three quiz nights, culminating in a final event held this March.
Supporting Search & Rescue and Surf Life Saving
The funds raised are going to West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team and Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club – two charities with strong community ties and a focus on safety and rescue.
The total raised includes £493.30 donated directly by Harbour Lights, alongside money collected through raffles held during each quiz.
The events were hosted by Matthew Stone, a member of West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team and co-founder of Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club.
Matthew said: “Thanks so much to everyone who attended and raised the vital funds for both West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team and Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club. The team at Harbour Lights have been amazing, and their generosity to support the local community is outstanding to see.”
Volunteer-Led, Year-Round Response
West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team is a registered charity that provides an inland search and rescue service across the region. The team, made up entirely of volunteers from all walks of life, responds to 30–40 incidents each year, including everything from quick evacuations on the moors to extended multi-day searches in all weather conditions.
Their members include teachers, carpenters, doctors, engineers, lawyers, brewers and nurses – all giving their time to help those in need.
Surf Life Saving for All Ages
Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club runs on the sands of Gyllyngvase Beach and welcomes everyone from age 7 to 77. Whether you’re after a new adventure, looking to train with friends, or aiming to become a qualified beach lifeguard, the club offers a supportive environment for people of all abilities.
With a growing local following and a loyal community of participants, the club continues to provide training, fitness and camaraderie in a fun and inclusive setting.
