Last night the Falmouth Lifeboat team sprang into action to rescue a stranded motor cruiser in Carrick Roads. The Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, “Robina Nixon Chard,” was launched promptly at 8:43 pm following a Pan Pan call issued by Falmouth Coastguard. The call was made to assist a 5.4-meter motor cruiser, which had broken down near the Vilt buoy with two persons on board.

Challenging Conditions

Despite the smooth seas and light winds, the motor cruiser was drifting dangerously in the deep water channel. With fading light posing an increased risk to the safe navigation of other vessels in the area, the situation was becoming critical.

Lifeboat to the Rescue

The lifeboat, piloted by a skilled crew, arrived on the scene at 8:54 pm. Realising the potential danger, the crew decided to establish an alongside tow to bring the disabled vessel back to safety. The lifeboat successfully towed the motor cruiser to Penryn, ensuring the safety of its occupants and other vessels navigating the channel.

Safe Return and Closure

After delivering the motor cruiser to Penryn and providing essential safety advice to its occupants, the lifeboat crew was released by HM Coastguard at 9:52 pm. The “Robina Nixon Chard” then made its way back to the boathouse, arriving at 10:00 pm.
