Lifeboat Crew Rescue Two People After Cruiser Strands on Rocks
Falmouth Lifeboat Responds After Cruiser Breaks Down Underneath St. Mawes Castle
Falmouth Lifeboat Station’s inshore lifeboat crew was called into action on Saturday, 28th September 2024, after receiving a 999 call. The call was received by the Falmouth Coastguard shortly after 5:20 pm, following a cabin cruiser breaking down and drifting onto rocks near St. Mawes Castle.
The volunteer crew launched the Atlantic 85 lifeboat, “Julie Poolie,” just 10 minutes later to respond to the emergency. The 21-foot vessel, with two people aboard, had become stranded due to an onshore force 4 wind and slight seas, causing it to drift and ground on rocks under the castle.
Arriving at the scene by 5:40 pm, the lifeboat crew found the vessel stuck high and dry. The team skilfully manoeuvred the lifeboat, safely rescuing both individuals. They were taken ashore to St. Mawes, while the cruiser was left for recovery at a later time.
The lifeboat returned to its station by 6:15 pm, where it was washed down and prepared for future service.
The following day (29th September), Falmouth Lifeboat Station continued its duties with crew members, including Becca Stockton-Belcher, taking part in training exercises despite the windy conditions at Pendennis Point.
