Harbour House Owners Expand with Iconic Seaside Restaurant in Falmouth

The owners of Flushing’s popular Harbour House restaurant have added another coastal gem to their collection, acquiring the renowned Hooked on the Rocks, located at Swanpool Beach in Falmouth, Cornwall.

New Acquisition in Falmouth

The sale of Hooked on the Rocks was handled by Jeremy Beaching of SPC Property, who was also involved in the 2022 sale of Harbour House. The latest purchase brings the successful restaurant into the fold of Tamara Costin and William Speed’s growing portfolio of dining establishments.

Tamara and William will now work closely with Hooked on the Rocks’ Head Chef Jack Frame and General Manager Katie Hemmings to maintain and build on the restaurant’s success. Known for its stunning cliffside location overlooking Swanpool Beach and nature reserve, Hooked on the Rocks has become a favourite for its seafood-focused menu, featuring local, sustainably sourced ingredients like crab, lobster, and Falmouth Bay scallops.

A Family Connection

This acquisition is especially meaningful for William, whose family has a long history with the site. His grandmother, Wendy Shepherd, worked at the restaurant in the 1960s when it was known as Swanpool Beach Café and owned by the local council. His aunt, Jenny Shepherd, also spent time working there during the 1990s when it was called Café Mozambique.

Looking to the Future

For now, it’s business as usual at Hooked on the Rocks, with the new owners eager to meet regular customers and continue the legacy of this beloved seaside restaurant. Tamara and William also own two acclaimed restaurants in Devon – Beach House on South Milton Sands and School House on the Flete Estate at Mothecombe – both of which have become renowned destinations for seafood and dining experiences.

In 2023, they opened Harbour House in the village of Flushing, which quickly gained a spot in the Michelin Guide and has since been recognised as one of the top dining destinations in Cornwall.
