Princess Pavilion set to host a unique Cornish adventure this December
This winter, Miracle Theatre is set to captivate audiences with Duffy and the Stiltskin, a festive family production inspired by an ancient Cornish mummers play. Running from 14th December to 5th January at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth, the show promises a heartwarming mix of laughter, live music, and magical storytelling that’s perfect for all ages.
A Tale of Magic and Courage
Set against the dark, atmospheric backdrop of the Cornish moors, Duffy and the Stiltskin tells the story of Duffy, a young woman yearning for more than her daily grind. Her world is turned upside down when the mischievous Stiltskin, a trickster with the power to grant wishes, enters her life. However, Duffy quickly learns that every wish comes at a cost, and she must summon her courage and wits to outsmart Stiltskin and protect what matters most.
This imaginative reimagining of a traditional Cornish tale is brought to life by Giles King, who is making his directorial debut with Miracle Theatre. Known for his work with Kneehigh Theatre and his role in the BAFTA-winning film Bait (2019), Giles describes the production as “a playful and magical reimagining of a traditional Cornish mummers play.” He adds, “Set on the moody Cornish moors and featuring the mystery of a fogou, it’s a real celebration of local myth and festive fun.”
Musical Mastery and a Stellar Cast
The production’s live music, performed by Toby Kessel and Jen Dyer, is composed by Jim Carey, whose acclaimed scores include work for Kneehigh Theatre, The Eden Project, and The National Theatre. Jim’s original compositions promise to infuse the play with a rich and atmospheric soundscape.
Miracle Theatre regular Ben Dyson, Cornish theatre legend Bec Applebee, and rising star Sophia Dear—who received acclaim in Miracle’s summer show Love Riot—lead the talented cast. Their performances are set to deliver the humour and heart Miracle Theatre is celebrated for.
A Festive Alternative to Pantomime
For families looking for something different this holiday season, Duffy and the Stiltskin offers an immersive storytelling experience steeped in Cornish heritage. Combining timeless life lessons with laughter and trickery, it’s an ideal festive outing for all ages.
Tickets are now available on Miracle Theatre’s website.
