Falmouth’s Public Toilets on Prince of Wales Pier to Close Early Due to Vandalism
In response to a series of vandalism incidents, Falmouth Town Council has announced an early closure time for the public toilets located on the Prince of Wales Pier.
Effective immediately, these facilities will now be shutting their doors at 5.30pm each day for an indefinite period.
A Wave of Destruction
The decision comes in the wake of relentless vandalism that reached its peak over the Easter weekend, resulting in the destruction of all locks on the cubicle doors within the men’s toilets. The Facilities team at Falmouth Town Council has been diligently working to repair the extensive damage, which included replacing or mending all the broken locks and removing graffiti.
Measures to Deter Further Incidents
The early closure measure is being implemented in hopes of deterring further acts of vandalism. The Council expressed its intention to prevent the recurring costs associated with the replacement and repair of the toilet facilities’ fixtures and fittings.
A Plea for Community Support
The Council extends its gratitude to the community for their patience and understanding during this challenging time. The reduction in hours is seen as a necessary step to ensure the longevity and maintenance of the public toilets, which serve as an essential amenity for residents and visitors alike.
The Town Council remains committed to providing public services and appeals to the community to report any suspicious behaviour that could lead to further damage. It’s a collective effort to maintain the town’s facilities and ensure they are welcoming and safe for everyone to use.
