Students from Falmouth School, alongside local residents, took part in a community clean-up organised by Falmouth Town Council on Wednesday, 9th October. The event was one of seven litter picks aimed at helping to keep Falmouth clean and tidy.

Students Lend a Hand at Trescobeas Park

Year 7 and Year 10 students walked from the school to Trescobeas Park, where they spent time collecting litter. Among the items they cleared were a tent, a chair, and old signage, highlighting the variety of rubbish scattered around the area.

The students were joined by community members, including representatives from Falmouth Town Council, Devon & Cornwall Police officers, staff from the Dracaena Centre, and other local residents. This collaborative effort aimed to make a positive impact on the local environment.

Falmouth School Praised for Its Contribution

Head Teacher Joanne Guest expressed her pride in the students’ involvement, emphasising the importance of taking care of the community and environment. “It’s great that our young people understand the importance of looking after their community and environment,” she said.

Environmental Education and Enforcement Officer Tessa Marie from Falmouth Town Council also commended the students’ efforts. “Keeping Falmouth clean is a shared responsibility,” she noted. “The students from Falmouth School who took part should be very proud for their contribution to looking after their local environment.”

Police Support the Event

Local police officers, including PC Johnny Stewart and PCSO Billwood, were present to support the clean-up. PC Johnny Stewart highlighted the significance of the event, saying it helped strengthen relationships within the community while ensuring spaces children use regularly remain clean and safe.

Students Share Their Thoughts

Year 7 student Florence shared her surprise at the amount of litter they encountered, stating, “There’s way more litter than I expected.” She stressed the importance of stopping littering to preserve shared public spaces.
