Falmouth School Students Give “Our Big Thank You” to Treliske Children’s Ward
A whole-school effort to say thank you
Falmouth School came together on Thursday 19th June for a heart-warming charity day called “Our Big Thank You”, raising money for the Play Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital’s Children’s Ward in Treliske.
The event was led by teacher of English Katherine Tredget and lead art teacher Charlotte Laity, who both had personal reasons for supporting the ward. Claire said, “So many of our students and staff members have been supported by the play team at Treliske so it is really important that we are able to recognise the amazing things they do. The charity day was a way to give a huge thank you and something back to such an amazing cause.”

Sweets, creativity and community support
Students enjoyed a non-uniform day, a sweet stall and an art workshop with local artist Eve Bourrat. Fifteen Key Stage 3 students worked with Eve to create original colouring sheets designed especially for young patients on the Children’s Ward. These will be printed and gifted to the ward to help keep children entertained while they wait for treatment.
The sweet stall, which was a big hit, raised even more money thanks to the generous donation of sweets from Fugro in Falmouth, meaning every penny went to the Play Team. Meanwhile, the workshop was funded by Falmouth Art Gallery and will also result in student artwork being transformed into murals to brighten rooms at the hospital.
Charlotte said, “Many families at Falmouth School have had to call on Treliske Hospital to support our children during difficult times. ‘Our Big Thank You’ is our opportunity to give something back to the amazing Play Team at Treliske.”

Kindness in action
Student Lily G summed up the day by saying, “This charity day is a great way to show how we, as a school, embody one of our core values which is kindness. Events like these help the school and the community grow closer together.”
Headteacher Jo Guest, joined by head students Brynn and Flo, spoke about the event live on BBC Radio Cornwall, helping raise awareness about the Play Team’s work.
Jo said, “Our Big Thank You is our school’s way of celebrating the incredible staff at Treliske Hospital, who provide such vital care to children during difficult times. We hope the funds raised, along with our students’ creative contributions, will bring meaningful support. I’m immensely proud of our staff, our students, and the wider community — especially Falmouth Art Gallery and Fugro — for coming together in such a powerful way. It’s a wonderful reminder of the positive change we can create when schools and the local community collaborate.”
The event raised £867.33, which will go towards enhancing patient rooms to make them more relaxing and comforting for children and their families.
