Falmouth Lifeboat Rescues Fishing Boat Snagged on Mooring Chain Off Porthoustock
A seven-metre fishing boat with two people on board became entangled in a mooring chain off Porthoustock Beach on Friday, 15th March, prompting a swift response from Falmouth RNLI’s inshore lifeboat.
Lifeboat Launched Within Minutes
The crew of the Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Robina Nixon Chard, was paged at 1.23pm, launching within 10 minutes. Conditions were slightly rough, with an onshore force 4/5 wind, but the crew reached the stranded vessel by 1.53pm.
Rescue Operation
After assessing the situation, the volunteer crew retrieved a cordless angle grinder from the shore to help free the vessel. Once released, a check confirmed there was no damage to the boat. The lifeboat then escorted the fishing boat back to its mooring in the Helford River.
Mission Completed
The crew was released from service by the Coastguard at 4.10pm, returning to the station by 4.30pm.
