Falmouth Library Announces Free Summer Activities for Children
Free creative workshops every Tuesday this summer
Falmouth Library has unveiled its programme of free children’s summer activities, set to run every Tuesday during the school holidays. The sessions will be held in the newly renovated, family-friendly children’s library space and are designed to inspire creativity through nature-themed crafts.
The activities run from 2pm to 3.30pm and are part of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme, Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors. The challenge is presented by The Reading Agency in partnership with libraries across the UK.
Led by local artist Sam Bradbury
The creative sessions will be led by local artist Sam Bradbury and include:
-
29th July – Hanging bird sculptures: Make delicate creations using strips of fancy card and upcycled damaged books
-
5th August – Colourful dandelion drawings: Use white and colourful chalk on black paper, then see if your art glows under UV light
-
12th August – Pebble people: Paint rocks using sponges, decorate with moss and lichen, and add fun faces
-
19th August – Bee window decorations: Craft a shining bee using colourful acetate and card
-
26th August – The Very Hungry Caterpillar: Use different shapes to print your own version of the classic character
Join the Summer Reading Challenge
While visiting the library, children aged 4–11 can also sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge. The challenge encourages young readers to set personal reading goals and collect rewards as they read the books they enjoy. It’s a fun way to keep reading throughout the holidays and help children start the Autumn term feeling confident.
Library Manager Jayne Cardew said:
“It has been wonderful to see so many local families dropping in since we opened the new children’s library space. We had a record first day of sign-ups for the Summer Reading Challenge, and we’re looking to keep that excitement for reading going through the coming weeks. It’s not too late to sign up for the Challenge, so why not visit the Library for one of our creative activities and join in!”
