Easter Sunday Rescue: Stricken Yacht Drifts Towards Shore Near Falmouth
Volunteer crew launch lifeboat after distress call at 4.11pm
April is proving to be a busy month for Falmouth’s volunteer lifeboat crew, with yet another call-out on Easter Sunday, 20th April 2025.
The alarm was raised at 4.11pm when HM Coastguard received a distress call from a sailor aboard a 35ft yacht that had broken down while attempting to enter Falmouth harbour in light south-westerly winds. The vessel, crewed by a single sailor, was reported to be drifting dangerously close to shore.
Swift launch to assist
The relief Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat was launched at 4.23pm and quickly located the drifting yacht near Trefusis Point.
To prevent the vessel from being pushed closer to land, the crew rigged an alongside tow and brought the casualty safely into Falmouth Marina, where it was moored alongside.
Back to base
Falmouth Coastguard released the lifeboat from service, with the crew returning to station shortly after 5.00pm.
