St Piran’s Day Parade Set to Bring Falmouth’s Streets to Life This Wednesday
Falmouth is gearing up for a lively celebration of St Piran’s Day this Wednesday, 5th March, with a parade that will see local primary school children dancing and chanting through the town.
Parade Route and Road Closures
The festivities kick off at 9:30am on The Moor, where participants will gather to the sound of traditional Cornish music. At 10am, the parade will set off, dancing along Webber Street, onto Prince of Wales Pier, and through Market Street and Church Street, before concluding at King Charles the Martyr Church.
To accommodate the event, road closures will be in place from 10am to 11am. Organisers have advised businesses and travellers to plan accordingly, as roads will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
A Celebration of Cornish Heritage
The parade is specifically aimed at local primary school children, many of whom will take part in dancing and chanting as they make their way through town. Upon arrival at the church around 10:40am, attendees will be directed to collect refreshments before taking their seats for the Story of St Piran, a poetry prize-giving, and a short session of Kernewek, the Cornish language.
The celebration will conclude with a rousing rendition of “Trelawny” at 11:40am, with children encouraged to join in the chorus. The event is expected to wrap up around 11:45am.
Parents are welcome to attend but are asked to sit in the gallery or towards the back in side seats.
Join the Celebration
Whether you want to take part or simply watch, everyone is welcome to experience the rich traditions of Cornwall. More details about the event can be found here.
