Shipwreck Treasure Museum’s Tunnel of Lights Shines as Cornwall Tourism Awards Finalist

The Shipwreck Treasure Museum’s Tunnel of Lights has been named a finalist for the Tourism Event / Festival of the Year at this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards. This festive event, a beloved family attraction in Cornwall, has captivated visitors with its immersive displays of twinkling lights and seasonal scenes over the past five years.

Since 2019, creatives at the Charlestown-based museum have transformed the historic tunnels beneath the museum into a Christmas spectacle, combining light and holiday décor to create an unforgettable experience for visitors. Each year, the event has attracted families and tourists alike, becoming a staple of the Cornish Christmas season.

Lynné Raubenheimer from the museum expressed pride in the recognition, saying, “It is pleasing for the Tunnel of Lights to be recognised in this way. Cornwall has so many wonderful events and festivals each year, and it is great to be held up as being up there with the very best of them.” She added, “Historically, the museum would have been closed over the winter, so we are hugely proud of our team who have poured so much creativity, energy, and enthusiasm into making such amazing Christmas events that families love, turning our quirky venue into something so special and unique.”

The awards ceremony will be held at Truro Cathedral on Thursday, 7th November, where the Tunnel of Lights will compete with other top tourism events for the prestigious title. Earlier this year, the museum also secured a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, placing it in the top 10% of reviewed attractions globally, further cementing its reputation among visitors.

Tickets for this year’s Tunnel of Lights are now available, with more information accessible at shipwreckcharlestown.co.uk. Will the Tunnel of Lights shine the brightest this awards season?
