Free Parking in Cornwall Today: Perfect Time to Support Local Businesses

Published On: 14 December 2024Last Updated: 14 December 2024By

Cornwall Council is offering free parking in all its car parks today, Saturday, 14th December, as part of its support for Small Business Saturday. The same offer will also apply on Monday, 23rd December.

In addition to car parks, the Truro Park and Ride service will also be free on these dates. This follows an earlier free parking date on Saturday, 7th December.

Supporting Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday, now in its 11th year, is a national campaign celebrating the success of small businesses and encouraging shoppers to support their local high streets. Martin Worth, Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for customers, highlighted the importance of the event, saying:

“Small Business Saturday is a reminder to us all about the importance of supporting the high street and local businesses.

“And if you’re not able to make it to your local high street this Small Business Saturday, this year we’re offering two additional free parking dates in the run up to Christmas.”

More Parking and Travel Options

For those heading into Truro, the Park and Ride service will be free today and on the two additional free parking dates. Martin added:

“If you’re planning to visit Truro on December 7, 14 or 23, our Park and Ride will be free with buses running regularly. With more than 2,500 parking spaces split between the Tregurra and Langarth bases, you can be reassured of finding a space!”

Cornwall Council has also noted that its bus network continues to offer great value, with single journeys costing just £2.

Important Details for Free Parking

All Cornwall Council pay and display and pay on exit car parks are included in the offer. Free parking posters are displayed at charging points for clarity. For pay-on-exit car parks, visitors should still take a ticket when entering. At the exit barrier, the ticket will allow free departure if parked only on the free parking day. Any additional charges for longer stays must be paid before leaving.
