Homeowners in Cornwall are set to benefit from a new loan scheme designed to fund energy-saving improvements in their properties, thanks to backing from  Cornwall Council.

Eco-Friendly Home Improvements Within Reach

In an effort to promote more sustainable living environments, Cornwall Council has introduced the Green Home Improvement Scheme. This initiative offers lower-cost loans specifically targeting energy efficiency upgrades for residential properties. Notably, the scheme is exclusive to homeowners and private landlords, deliberately excluding properties utilised as holiday lets or second homes.

Funding and Management

The scheme is managed by Lendology CIC, a not-for-profit organisation with a track record of supporting similar projects across the south-west. The pilot programme has been equipped with a £518,254 fund provided by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, part of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Fund.

Official Comments

Olly, Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for housing, emphasised the benefits of the scheme: “Poor energy efficiency in homes can impact health and wellbeing, as well as increase heating costs. This pilot loan scheme is a significant step towards helping residents afford necessary improvements that, although costly at first, will provide savings and enhanced living conditions in the long term.”

Louis, responsible for the council’s economic portfolio, highlighted the broader impacts expected from the funding: “The Shared Prosperity Fund aims to enhance the quality of life for our residents by not only supporting economic growth and community activities but also by facilitating significant reductions in carbon emissions and improvements in health and wellbeing.”

Lendology CIC’s Role

Emma, CEO of Lendology, shared her enthusiasm about the partnership: “This collaborative effort with Cornwall Council is driven by a commitment to impactful change. Our previous projects have already shown substantial benefits in community support and housing improvements, and we are excited to bring these advantages to more residents in Cornwall.”

Residents interested in the Green Home Improvement Scheme can inquire about eligibility and further details by visiting the Lendology website or contacting their office directly at 01823 461099.

This scheme represents a proactive approach by Cornwall Council to not only enhance living standards but also contribute to the environmental well-being of the region, reflecting a growing trend of integrating sustainability into local governance.
