In a heartwarming display of community spirit and environmental stewardship, the Mounts Bay Marine Group took part in the “Love Your Beach 2024” event, organised by Cornwall Wildlife Trust. This initiative, aimed at celebrating and cleaning local beaches over Valentine’s weekend, saw an impressive turnout and impactful results.
Despite the challenge of a little rain, the event was brightened by the surprise appearance of a rainbow, adding a touch of magic to the day’s efforts. More than 40 dedicated participants, including volunteers from the Mounts Bay Marine Group and community allies from Plastic Free Penzance, gathered to show their love and care for their local beach. Their hard work resulted in the removal of over 14 kilograms of rubbish, significantly contributing to the preservation of the coastal environment.

Among the debris collected, participants made some unique discoveries, including the beak of a cuttlefish and a vertebrae from a common dolphin. These items were responsibly handed over to the team at Grampus Campus, who hold the appropriate licenses to possess such finds.
The event was coordinated by Your Shore Network, which played a crucial role in bringing together various environmental groups and community members for this cause. The successful cleanup not only demonstrated the community’s commitment to protecting their local marine environment but also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling environmental challenges.
The Mounts Bay Marine Group expressed their gratitude to everyone who supported and participated in the event, emphasising the collective impact of their work. The “Love Your Beach 2024” event serves as a reminder of the power of community action in making a positive difference for our planet.
