Cornwall Joins Forces for The Big Plastic Count This March
In an effort to combat plastic pollution, Plastic Free Penzance is rallying Cornwall to participate in The Big Plastic Count, a significant initiative set to take place from March 11th to March 17th. This campaign, a collaborative effort by Surfers Against Sewage, Everyday Plastic, and Greenpeace UK, which aims to quantify the amount of plastic waste households contribute over a one-week period.
Participants are asked to simply count and report the plastic they dispose of during this time frame. The data collected will be instrumental in providing concrete evidence to global leaders as negotiations for a Global Plastic Treaty are underway. This initiative marks a crucial step towards understanding the scale of plastic waste and its management, with the ultimate goal of pressuring for an end to plastic pollution.
Residents of Cornwall are encouraged to take part in what is described as the UK’s largest investigation into household plastic waste. This effort is not only about gathering data but also about raising awareness of the environmental impact of plastic and the importance of recycling and reducing plastic use.
To join the cause, individuals can sign up through The Big Plast Count website.
