Unleash Your Creativity This May Half Term at the Eden Project’s Festival of Imagination
This May half term, the Eden Project transforms into a hub of cultural and creative activities with the return of the eagerly awaited Festival of Imagination.
From May 25 to June 2, visitors of all ages can enjoy a wide array of immersive and interactive experiences.
Dive Into Diverse Experiences
The festival boasts a lineup that’s as educational as it is entertaining. Highlights include the Blockbuster Factory, an audience participation show where visitors can step onto an imaginary film set and influence the storyline. For those enchanted by traditional storytelling, the puppet show Anansi and the Lost Sun offers a 45-minute spectacle followed by interactive puppetry workshops.
Music lovers are in for a treat as One Drum performs live African drumming, complete with dancing and acrobatics. Attendees can also take part in drumming workshops to learn the rhythms themselves.
Explore Cutting-Edge Technology
Tech enthusiasts will find plenty to engage with, especially at the Looking for the Cloud augmented reality experience. This installation, developed by researchers from Bath Spa University, delves into how the internet and devices connect and use energy, offering a hands-on learning experience.
The gaming community hasn’t been forgotten; the Game Lounge invites visitors to delve into game design. Participants can create and play as unique characters, gaining insights into coding and story crafting with experts from Mind Feast Games.
Participatory Art and Relaxation
A key visual feature this year is The Mossy Carpet, a collaborative art project emphasising community action and the ecological role of moss. Visitors can add to the artwork, which already spans 50 metres.
For those seeking a quieter corner, the Book Nook is a cosy retreat. Filled with blankets, pillows, and a selection of children’s books, it’s the perfect spot for daily storytelling sessions. Notable authors such as Sarah Underwood, Rebecca Cobb, and Rachel Bright will share their tales, providing inspiration and relaxation in equal measure.
Evening Entertainment with Adventure Cinema
As the day winds down, the Eden Project’s Arena will transform into an outdoor cinema. Adventure Cinema is set to screen three beloved films against the striking backdrop of the Biomes. The lineup includes Mamma Mia!, Jurassic Park, and Pretty Woman, making for memorable evenings under the stars. Tickets are available at www.adventurecinema.co.uk
New Artistic Horizons
Additionally, the festival coincides with the unveiling of a new art exhibition by the internationally acclaimed British artist Cornelia Parker. Titled THE FUTURE (Sixes and Sevens), the exhibit features a poignant film exploring the future through the eyes of children, providing a unique artistic perspective during the festival.
A Festival for All
Tamsyn Lewis, the Eden Project’s Living Theatre Production Manager, expressed excitement about the festival’s return, highlighting the diverse offerings that promise fun and enlightenment for every visitor.
