A Familiar Face at Eden
This marks Paolo Nutini’s fourth appearance at the Eden Sessions, a testament to his enduring appeal and the strong connection he has with his fans. With over 1.5 billion streams and 18 platinum certifications under his belt, Nutini continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Born in Paisley, Scotland, Paolo Nutini first rose to fame in 2006 with his debut album, These Streets. The album quickly climbed to number three on the UK album charts, featuring hits such as “Last Request” and “Jenny Don’t Be Hasty,” eventually earning five platinum certifications.
Musical Evolution
Paolo Nutini’s second album, Sunny Side Up, released in 2009, showcased his versatility with its mix of upbeat soul and ragtime influences. The album debuted at number one in the UK, with the hit “Pencil Full of Lead” propelling it to finish the year as one of the top-performing albums. It reclaimed the number one spot again in January 2010.
Nutini’s career highlights include headlining major events like Glastonbury’s Other Stage, Benicàssim in Spain, and performing at the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony alongside renowned artists like Duran Duran, Snow Patrol, and Stereophonics. A particularly heartfelt honour came from the Tuscan town of Barga, Italy, his father’s ancestral home, which awarded him the Golden St Christopher Medal after his debut album.
Recent Works and Acclaim
Following a series of reflective hiatuses, Paolo Nutini released his third album, Caustic Love, in 2014. This album, which opened up a new, brooding sound for the artist, debuted at number one and was named Apple’s Best iTunes Album of the Year.
His latest work, Last Night In The Bittersweet (2022), is a genre-defying epic blending classic rock, post-punk, and experimental German rock influences. This album further cemented Nutini’s reputation for innovation and musical depth, earning universal acclaim and marking his third consecutive UK number-one album. The Telegraph’s Neil McCormick praised Paolo, saying he possesses “the most fluid, raw and emotional soul voice Britain has produced since Rod Stewart.”
