Exciting Leadership Change at Eden Project: Andy Jasper Named New CEO
The Eden Project has announced a significant leadership change as Andy Jasper takes the helm as the new Group Chief Executive Officer.
Andy, who will officially join in September, succeeds Rob Chatwin, who will step down after nearly three years in the role.
From Cornwall to the World and Back
Andy Jasper’s connection to the Eden Project is longstanding. He began his illustrious career at the Eden Project as the Head of Research and Evaluation, spending 13 years specialising in the social and economic impacts of the initiative. Now, after a decade of international and national successes, he returns to Cornwall to lead the organisation into a new era.
A Stellar Career at the National Trust
Joining from the National Trust, where he is currently Director of Gardens and Parklands, Andy has been responsible for overseeing 222 gardens and parklands with more than 750 horticulturists under his leadership. His tenure at the National Trust included the rejuvenation of several historic sites and the development of new garden projects, demonstrating his ability to manage large-scale transformations.
International Achievements
Andy’s career is marked by notable achievements beyond the UK. As Director of the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Hawaii, he successfully led a capital investment programme and reconfigured the South Shore gardens of Kauai. His expertise in garden transformations extended to projects in Germany, South Africa, and across the UK, including the acclaimed RHS Garden Wisley and the People’s Choice-winning Octavia Hill Garden at the 2024 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Looking Forward: Morecambe and Dundee Projects
Andy joins the Eden Project at a pivotal moment, with the Eden Project Morecambe set to commence construction and Eden Project Dundee recently receiving planning permission. His leadership is anticipated to drive these projects forward, leveraging his extensive experience and passion for horticultural excellence.
Praise from Colleagues
Orna NiChionna, Chair of the Eden Trust, expressed her excitement about Andy’s appointment, stating that his career aligns perfectly with the Eden Project’s mission and ambitions. Outgoing CEO Rob Chatwin will work closely with Andy to ensure a smooth transition, maintaining momentum on critical projects.
Hilary McGrady, National Trust Director-General, praised Andy’s contributions over the past six years, highlighting his role in revitalising the National Trust’s gardens and advocating for gardening and nature.
A New Chapter for Eden Project
Andy Jasper’s return to the Eden Project marks a new chapter in the organisation’s history. His vision and expertise are expected to bring fresh energy and innovative approaches as the Eden Project continues to expand its global presence. As a Cornishman, Andy expressed his honour and enthusiasm for leading the Eden Project and supporting its team in realising its ambitious goals.
