Eden Project-Inspired ‘Oriental Eden’ to Open in China This Weekend

‘Oriental Eden’ opens this Saturday with global eyes on Qingdao

A brand new visitor destination inspired by Cornwall’s Eden Project will officially open this Saturday, 28th June 2025, in Qingdao, China.

Known as ‘Oriental Eden’, the enormous attraction has been ten years in the making and is based on the original Eden Project model. The new site overlooks Jiaozhou Bay and spans a vast 200-acre area that was once environmentally damaged land.

Just like the original in Cornwall, the site has been transformed into a lush experience aimed at reconnecting people with nature. The Chinese owners, Jinmao Holdings, worked closely with the Eden Project team throughout the development.

A Decade of Collaboration

Eden Project’s team has spent a decade consulting with Jinmao Holdings to help bring the vision to life. The result is a space that mirrors Eden’s immersive approach, with a focus on nature, water, and the surrounding landscape.

Oriental Eden draws from the Eden Project’s charitable mission, using the site as a platform to demonstrate and encourage positive environmental action. Particular attention has been paid to telling the local water story of the region, bringing in a strong connection to place and purpose.

Special Guests from Cornwall

The grand opening this weekend will see Eden Project Founder Sir Tim Smit KBE and Chair of Eden Project Trust Orna NiChionna attend as honoured guests. They are joining the destination’s owners for the official unveiling in China.

More to Come from Eden

This major overseas opening comes ahead of the much-anticipated Eden Project Morecambe, due to open in the north of England in 2028.
