Duchy College Students Raise Over £6,000 for Royal British Legion with Fun-Filled Poppy Run
Students from the Military and Protective Services academy at Duchy College Stoke Climsland have raised an impressive £6,056 for the Royal British Legion, following a successful Poppy Run challenge held on 11th November. The annual event brought together students and staff in a spirited display of support for veterans and service members across the UK.
A Fun and Fundraising-Focused Run
The event saw students of all abilities taking part in mile loops around the college campus, dressed in fancy dress. Each participant chose their own pace, aiming to complete as many laps as possible within a two-hour window. This initiative allowed students to show their dedication to the cause in a fun and inclusive manner.
Study programme manager Darren Gray praised the students’ commitment, saying, “We’re incredibly proud of our students’ dedication and the commitment they’ve shown to this cause. Raising more than £6,000 is a tremendous achievement, and it reflects the compassion and support within our college community for those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces.”
Passion and Dedication for a Meaningful Cause
Fraya Brealey, a second-year student on the Military and Protective Services programme, highlighted the motivation behind the event. “We all have been looking forward to this charity run, from planning, to coordinating to raising money and taking part in the run,” she said. “Our teachers always inspire us to do charitable work; they all come from a service background, and it’s an honour for us to be able to give something back to those who have given their time to serving this country.”
Supporting the Armed Forces Community
All funds raised through the Poppy Run will go directly to the Royal British Legion, a charity dedicated to providing lifelong support to veterans, service members, and their families. The event also served as an opportunity to unite students, faculty, and staff in a shared commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.
