Duchy College Rosewarne, located near Camborne, has announced exciting campus upgrades aimed at strengthening the local economy and supporting food and agriculture industries. These developments are part of the Food and Farming Enterprise project, which has received £400,895 from the UK Government’s Town Deal programme.
New Spaces for Local Businesses
The upgrades include a new business enterprise space featuring almost 400 workspaces tailored for start-up land-based industries such as market gardening, small-scale food production, and rural crafts. A former agricultural engineering workshop on campus has been refurbished into four work units, creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs to grow their ventures.
Luke Bazeley, Head of Duchy College Rosewarne, expressed his enthusiasm for the new facilities, stating, “Our colleges are at the heart of the community. By providing a training kitchen for the delivery of short courses at Rosewarne, we will improve access to affordable food and healthy living for local people.”
Focus on Affordable and Sustainable Food
A newly established Farm and Food Hub has been created at the existing campus café. This hub aims to make affordable and sustainable food more accessible to the local community, while also supporting training and skills development.
Louis Gardner, Cornwall Council Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Economy, highlighted the importance of these upgrades: “This Town Deal investment is delivering sustainability right where it is needed; offering land-based enterprises the opportunity to grow within an expert community and nurturing local peoples’ skills and abilities to enjoy local and affordable food.”
A Part of Camborne’s Town Deal
The project is part of the Camborne Town Deal, which successfully secured £23.7 million from the government to support the town’s regeneration. Managed by Cornwall Council in collaboration with the Camborne Town Deal Board, the investment aims to deliver long-term economic growth through various projects.
