Is This the Ultimate Day Out for Dogs? Watergate Bay’s ‘Paws on the Beach’ Returns 4th May

A tail-wagging day by the sea

Paws on the Beach is back at Watergate Bay this spring, offering a packed day of dog-friendly fun – and it’s all for a good cause. Taking place on Sunday 4th May 2025 from 11am to 3pm, this free-to-attend event raises funds for RSPCA Cornwall and promises a feel-good atmosphere for the whole family.

A beach day made for dogs (and their humans)

Dogs are welcome on Watergate Bay beach all year round, but on this particular Sunday, they’ll be the stars of the show. With support from RSPCA Cornwall Branch and Watergate Bay Hotel, the day is filled with activities designed to keep tails wagging.

Highlights include:

• A dog show with prizes of dog-friendly ice cream and rosettes for all 1st place winners

• ‘Have-a-go’ agility sessions

• Behaviour and training advice

• Guidance from a clinical canine massage therapist

Something for the kids too

It’s not just about the dogs. For the younger members of the family, there’ll be:

• Children’s agility

• Arts and crafts

• Face painting

• Classic raffle and tombola stalls

All donations from the event will go to RSPCA Cornwall, which runs its branch centre just a few miles away in St Columb.

Food, drink and beachside vibes

Visitors can enjoy refreshments on the beach throughout the day, while The Beach Hut will be open from breakfast through to dinner. Dogs are welcome inside, and water bowls will be ready and waiting alongside a menu of food, drinks and cocktails.

Bigger and better in 2025

Leanne Bawden, Community and Fundraising Manager for RSPCA Cornwall, said:

“RSPCA Cornwall Branch is really excited to bring Paws on the Beach back for its second year. We’ve made it bigger and better for 2025, to become an annual fixture in the Cornwall events calendar. All funds raised will go directly towards supporting the RSPCA Cornwall Branch Centre in St Columb, just a stone’s throw from Watergate Bay.”

Backed by big names

This year’s event is supported by Land Rover Discovery and kicks off both the Watergate Bay beach events calendar and a year-long partnership between the venue and the vehicle brand.
