Hundreds of Pups Take the Plunge at Jubilee Pool’s Annual Dog Day

Published On: 4 November 2024Last Updated: 4 November 2024By

Wet tails were wagging on Sunday, 3rd November, as Jubilee Pool in Penzance celebrated its annual Dog Day, an event that has become a beloved tradition. Now in its sixth year, the occasion brought hundreds of dogs and their owners to the iconic Art Deco lido for a day of doggy paddling and fun.

A Splashing Success

Despite the chill in the air on the last day of Half Term, dogs of all sizes eagerly dived into the water. While most plunged in without hesitation, some required a little encouragement from their wetsuit-clad owners. The event marked a successful end to Jubilee Pool’s summer season and drew participants from across the community, showcasing its popularity among both locals and visitors.

Nicola Murdoch, CEO of Jubilee Pool, expressed her delight: “Dog Day 2024 was super successful and was a great finish to our summer season. In its 6th year, it’s a real highlight of our event calendar and loved by locals and visitors alike.”

Community Support and Upcoming Events

Penzance Council has been a steadfast supporter of Jubilee Pool, providing £40,000 of funding for this financial year. This support contributes to the pool’s winter maintenance, subsidised entry for adults living in the parish, and the PZ Under 16s Free Swim scheme, which grants free access to Jubilee Pool for under-16s in Penzance Parish.

As Jubilee Pool transitions into the colder months, Nicola shared that the Geothermal pool will be closed, but Cold Water swimming sessions will be available a few mornings each week. Exciting seasonal events such as Full Moon gatherings, Christmas Eve cold dips, and New Year’s Day swims are also planned.

“Our iconic cafe will also remain open, serving delicious food, drinks and providing a local venue for live music sessions and Christmas parties,” Nicola noted. “We really appreciate all the local support we have, from both local residents, business, and of course Penzance Council. And hope to see as many of you as possible over the winter months.”

This year’s Dog Day was yet another testament to Jubilee Pool’s role as a cherished community hub, blending tradition, fun, and community spirit.
