Detectives in St Austell have arrested two men following a series of incidents on the evening of Thursday, 6 June.

The incidents, which included multiple burglaries and an officer being injured, have prompted an ongoing investigation by Devon and Cornwall Police.

Petrol Station Burglary

The first call to the police reported a burglary at a petrol station on Southbourne Road. This incident marked the beginning of a troubling sequence of events that continued throughout the evening.

Roche Area Break-In

Shortly after the petrol station burglary, officers were alerted to another break-in at a property in the Roche area. As police were investigating this second burglary, an officer was injured by a vehicle on Penwinnick Road. The officer was making enquiries related to the burglaries at the time of the incident.

Public Appeal Leads to Vehicle Location

In response to these incidents, Devon and Cornwall Police issued a public appeal for information. This led to the discovery of a vehicle of interest in the St Austell area on Saturday, 8 June. The vehicle’s location played a crucial role in the subsequent arrests.

Arrests and Charges

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and Section 18 causing grievous bodily harm with intent. In addition, a 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of four counts of burglary and one count of Section 18 causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Both men have been released on police bail until September as the investigation continues. The police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Ongoing Investigation

Devon and Cornwall Police have stressed that enquiries are ongoing. They are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their investigation. Witnesses or anyone with information about the incidents are asked to contact the police on 101, quoting log 936 06/6/24.
