Senseless Vandalism Strikes Cornwall’s Road Safety Efforts – Community Left Vulnerable!
In a deeply disheartening turn of events, safety cameras in Cornwall, vital for preserving road safety, have fallen victim to mindless acts of vandalism. Cornwall Council and Devon & Cornwall Police, both key members of the Vision Zero Road Safety partnership, have issued a joint statement condemning the damage sustained by safety cameras in Perranarworthal and Truro overnight.
A Community’s Cry for Safety
These safety cameras were originally installed at the request of the local community to address the alarming issue of speeding and the high occurrence of severe and fatal accidents in these areas. Their presence was meant to safeguard lives and make the roads safer for everyone.
A Disheartening Outcome
As these cameras now lie inactive due to the damage inflicted, these communities are deprived of the protection they once had. The repercussions extend beyond mere inconvenience, as the cost of replacing these cameras falls on the shoulders of the taxpayers, rendering these senseless acts of vandalism all the more perplexing.
A United Effort for Swift Resolution
Devon & Cornwall Police, in collaboration with Cornwall Council and the affected communities, are dedicated to swiftly replacing the damaged cameras. They are also diligently working to identify those responsible for these acts of vandalism.
Inspector Tim Evans encourages the community to report any suspicious activity and share any information or dashcam footage that could aid their investigations.
You can reach out to the police through their website or by calling 101, quoting reference number 50240001590.
A Call to Action
As these incidents cast a shadow over road safety efforts, it’s imperative that the community unites against such destructive behavior. Let’s stand together, support the authorities, and ensure that our roads remain safe for all.
Preserve Our Community – Report and Protect
Remember, it’s up to us to protect our communities and maintain the safety measures in place. Report any suspicious activity, share information, and help us ensure that acts of vandalism like these never undermine the safety of our roads again.
Let’s stand united for the safety of Cornwall’s roads! 🛣️❤️ #CornwallSafety #CommunityUnity #RoadSafetyMatters
