Police are calling for witnesses after a distraction burglary incident occurred in Newquay on Monday, February 12. The incident involved two males who targeted the home of elderly residents under the guise of unsolicited property work.

According to reports, the suspects, one described as being in his late teens and the other as an older male, approached a residence on Mount Wise. They informed the homeowners that work had been arranged for their property, a claim which led to the unfolding of the burglary. It was during this interaction that one of the individuals ascended onto the roof, while the other, the younger of the two, requested payment for the supposed work. The homeowner declined to pay the requested sum, citing concerns over the cost.

As the situation progressed, the occupants were distracted with offers for additional work, during which time a sum of cash, a car key, and, subsequently, the car itself were stolen. Reports suggest that the vehicle was towed away from the scene.

In response to these events, law enforcement officials have detained three individuals from Exeter: a 17-year-old male, a 37-year-old female, and a 38-year-old male. These suspects are currently under arrest on suspicion of dwelling burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. They have been released on bail pending further investigation, with a return date set for April 16.

Authorities are now urging anyone who may have observed suspicious activities in the Mount Wise area between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the day of the burglary to come forward. Additionally, they are seeking information from residents who might have been approached by two males offering property work during the same timeframe.

Members of the public with any information that could assist in the investigation are encouraged to contact the police directly by calling 101, or by submitting details through the official police website, referencing case number 50240036019. The appeal underscores the community’s crucial role in aiding law enforcement efforts to address and prevent crimes of this nature.
