Police Issue Warning: Inconsiderate Parking and Driving Near Schools Will Not Be Tolerated
Hayle and St Ives Police Urge Caution During School Pick-Up and Drop-Off Times
Hayle and St Ives Police have issued a warning to parents and drivers regarding parking and driving behaviour outside schools. The message comes as police emphasise the need for safe and considerate driving during busy school pick-up and drop-off times.
Allow Time for Your Journey
Police are urging drivers to ensure they allow sufficient time for their journeys to avoid rushed and potentially dangerous situations near schools. Congestion during these peak times can lead to frustration, but police are reminding drivers that safety should remain the top priority.
Parking Restrictions Must Be Respected
Drivers are reminded not to park on yellow zigzag lines or opposite them, as these areas are designated for the safety of children and other pedestrians. Parking further away may be necessary, but residents’ driveways should not be blocked.
Slow Down and Be Prepared to Stop
The police are also calling on drivers to be vigilant and ready to slow down for pedestrians, giving them ample time to cross the road. Aggressive driving behaviours, such as revving engines or edging forwards towards pedestrians, have been reported and are considered both intimidating and dangerous.
Report of Inconsiderate Driving
A report has already been received regarding inconsiderate driving outside a school, according to police. They have made it clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated, and any incidents of dangerous or inconsiderate driving should be reported to the authorities.
Police are asking all road users to be considerate and patient during these busy times to ensure the safety of everyone, particularly children, around schools.
