The sudden and tragic death of a young woman in Newquay has prompted a police appeal for witnesses.
Incident Overview
On the evening of Monday, 20 May, at approximately 7:30 PM, officers responded to a concern for welfare in the Barrowfields area of Newquay. Emergency services, including HM Coastguard and the RNLI, attended the scene. Sadly, the woman, in her 20s and from the Newquay area, was pronounced deceased after falling from the cliffs. Her next of kin have been informed, and her death is not being treated as suspicious.
Witness Appeal
Authorities believe the woman was in the company of several individuals prior to her fall. The police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the woman in the Barrowfields area that evening.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police on 101 or via their website, quoting log 872 of 20 May.
Investigation and IOPC Referral
Due to prior police contact with the woman on Saturday, 18 May, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). This is standard procedure in such circumstances.
The police are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and are appealing to the public for any information that may help clarify the events leading up to this tragic incident.
