Penzance Police Urge Drivers to Allow Room for Large Vehicles
In an appeal to vehicle owners and drivers across Cornwall, Penzance Police have emphasised the importance of considerate parking along public highways to ensure clear access for larger vehicles. The call for action follows an incident highlighted by a photograph taken on the morning of February 26, 2024, at 7:45 a.m., showing the access road to Morrab Gardens and surrounding properties obstructed by improperly parked vehicles.
Morrab Gardens, a site currently undergoing construction work, requires unimpeded access for lorries delivering materials essential for the ongoing building projects. The police have stressed that the roadway must remain clear not only for construction traffic but also to guarantee that emergency vehicles can pass without hindrance. The importance of this access is underlined by the potential difficulty faced by fire appliances and other emergency services if they were called to the area.
Given the limited availability of waiting bays in this area, Cornwall Council’s Civil Enforcement officers have been notified and are set to patrol the area to address and mitigate the issue. Vehicle owners are being reminded of the critical need to park in a manner that does not disrupt the flow of traffic or impede the operations of emergency and essential service vehicles.
Penzance Police are seeking the cooperation and understanding of the public to avoid such obstructions in the future, thereby ensuring the safety and efficiency of services vital to the community and its infrastructure.
