Operation Scorpion 8: Police Raids Lead to Over 60 Arrests and Major Drug Seizures
In a sweeping series of police raids across the South West, more than 60 arrests were made, and drugs valued at over £150,000 were seized during a week-long crackdown, according to newly released figures.
Significant Seizures and Arrests
Operation Scorpion 8, a collaboration between the South West’s five police forces, resulted in the seizure of large quantities of crack cocaine, cannabis, and heroin. Weapons, including firearms, a Samurai sword, machete, and knives, were also confiscated.
Key figures from the operation include:
- 64 arrests
- £152,173 worth of drugs seized
- £198,088 in cash seized
- 29 weapons seized
- 28 vulnerable people safeguarded
Additionally, police seized a number of high-value items such as clothing, motorbikes, and luxury cars.
Targeting Gangs and Dealers
From June 10-16, police teams targeted known hotspots, raided suspected drug dealers’ addresses, and used advanced technology to disrupt county-lines activities. The operation involved the cooperation of Dorset, Devon & Cornwall, Avon & Somerset, Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire police forces, along with the British Transport Police, the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit, and Crimestoppers.
Operation Highlights in Devon and Cornwall
In Devon and Cornwall, the operation saw the arrest of 15 individuals, with 5 charged with various offences. The police safeguarded 25 people, including 17 adults and 8 children. Among the seizures were:
- £9,360 worth of cocaine in Cornwall
- £3,500 worth of heroin
- £7,000 in cannabis packages
- Over £11,000 in cash
- £170 worth of THC-containing vapes
A notable interception included a cannabis grow and additional packages of Class A and B drugs valued at £20,000.
Community Impact and Safeguarding
Assistant Chief Constable Jim Pearce highlighted the broader impact of the operation, stating that it has not only disrupted criminal activity but also provided relief to communities plagued by drug-related crime and anti-social behaviour. Pearce emphasised the importance of public intelligence in targeting police resources effectively.
In Plymouth’s Devonport area, warrants were served following reports of persistent anti-social behaviour, showcasing the proactive measures taken to protect local residents.

Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez reaffirmed her commitment to prioritising the fight against drug dealers who exploit vulnerable individuals. She praised the operation’s success and pledged ongoing support for the police’s efforts.
