New App To Revolutionise Crime Reporting in Devon & Cornwall

Published On: 24 April 2024Last Updated: 24 April 2024By

Residents of Devon and Cornwall are set to experience a significant advancement in the way they interact with local law enforcement, thanks to the launch of a new mobile application designed to streamline the process of reporting crimes and accessing police services.

Harnessing Mobile Convenience

The innovative Police.UK app, now available for download on both iOS App store and Google Play, mirrors the capabilities of the Police.UK website, yet enhances user experience by adapting its services for mobile use. This move allows residents to report non-urgent incidents, access crime prevention advice, and learn more about their local policing teams directly from their smartphones.

Empowering the Community

Assistant Chief Constable Nikki commented on the launch: “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to contact the police to report an incident, to find out how to keep themselves or their property safe, or to find details of their local policing team.”

The app not only facilitates a simpler way for users to communicate with the police but also empowers them to take control of their own safety by providing extensive information on crime prevention and community policing efforts.

Features at a Glance

  • Crime Reporting: Users can report non-urgent incidents smoothly and swiftly.
  • Crime Prevention: The app offers targeted advice for preventing various crimes, including burglary and vehicle theft.
  • Local Police Info: Details about neighbourhood policing teams, local crime priorities, and upcoming community meetings are readily available.

Additional Contact Options

While the app offers a new avenue for public interaction with the police, traditional methods of contact remain in place. Nikki asserts, “Police.UK does not replace other ways of reporting incidents. It just provides an additional way to get in touch.” For emergencies, the public should still dial 999, and for less urgent matters, the 101 phone service is available.

A Digital Step Forward

The development of the Police.UK app is part of the broader Digital Public Contact Programme managed by the National Police Chief’s Council. This programme aims to enhance digital communication between the police and the public across various platforms.

With the inclusion of Devon & Cornwall, the Single Online Home (SOH) web platform now assists a majority of the territorial police forces in the UK, promoting a comprehensive digital policing experience.

Residents of Devon and Cornwall can look forward to a more direct and efficient way of interacting with their local police, making community safety more accessible than ever.
