Launceston Assault Update: New Arrest in Asda Forecourt Attack

A second arrest has been made in connection with a violent assault at the Asda petrol station in Launceston, Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed.

Incident Details

On the night of 2 July, at approximately 11.40pm, police responded to reports of an assault on two men at the forecourt of the Asda petrol station in Launceston. The victims were found to have sustained serious injuries; one man suffered a stab wound to the head, which, fortunately, is not considered life-threatening. Both victims also sustained facial injuries from being punched.

Arrests Made

In the wake of the incident, police arrested two individuals from Launceston. On Wednesday, a 20-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and theft from a shop. He has since been released on police bail until 19 September.

The following day, a 21-year-old man was also arrested under suspicion of the same offences. This individual remains in police custody as the investigation continues.

Ongoing Investigation

Sector Inspector Greg Hodgkiss has sought to reassure the community, emphasising that the incident is being treated as isolated.

“I understand that an incident of this nature will cause concern within the community, but I can reassure you that we are treating this as an isolated incident. Enquiries have been ongoing over the past two days in relation to this report and these will continue as the investigation progresses,” said Greg Hodgkiss.

Police are urging anyone with relevant information or footage from dash-cams or doorbells to come forward. Information can be reported by contacting police on 101 and quoting log 1005 of 2 July 2024.
