Family pays heartfelt tribute to David Staveley, 71, following fatal accident on the A394

A 71-year-old motorcyclist tragically lost his life in a collision involving a tractor on the A394 near Germoe, Helston, on Tuesday 30 July. Devon and Cornwall Police responded to the incident at approximately 5:55 pm, where David Staveley from Porthleven was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family’s Heartfelt Tribute

David, affectionately known as Dave, was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend. His family expressed their profound grief and love for him in a touching tribute, saying, “Dave was taken from us too soon at the young-at-heart age of 71.”

Dave’s lifelong passion for motorcycles began at the age of 15, starting out with dirt bikes. His family recalled his countless stories about his love for riding, including memories of keeping warm next to his bike while camping in the Scottish Highlands, and his fondness for riding along Cornwall’s north coast.

Despite his passing, Dave’s family believes that his “love, laugh, cheekiness and special ways” will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. “Dave will be truly missed. Ride high, until we see you again,” they added.

Personal Reflections from Loved Ones

Elaine, Dave’s wife, shared a poignant reflection on their life together: “I fell in love with Dave the first day I met him, which kept us going throughout. Dave was my soulmate and best friend and will always be missed, love you to the moon and back.”

His daughter Melissa spoke of the deep bond she had with her father, describing him as her “guiding light through life” and her “hero.” She added, “I have so many happy memories that flood my mind when I think of you, Dad. I love you always xx.”

Granddaughter Alisha also paid tribute, remembering her grandad with fondness and love: “You had the kindest soul ever, you have been taken far too soon. Love you always xx.”

Appeal for Information

As the investigation into the collision continues, police are appealing to the public for any relevant information or dash-cam footage that may assist with their inquiries. Anyone who can help is asked to contact the police via their website or by calling 101, quoting log 808 30/07/24.

The community mourns the loss of David Staveley, a man whose passion for life and motorcycles left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
