Don’t Risk It! Police Urge Festival-Goers to Plan Sober Travels for Tunes in the Dunes
As Tunes in the Dunes festival approaches next weekend, Devon and Cornwall Police are emphasising the importance of planning ahead to ensure a safe journey home from the popular music event.
Held on Perranporth Beach, the festival is a highlight for the area, attracting large crowds ready to enjoy three days of music and festivities.
Pre-Event Planning Encouraged
In anticipation of the festival, law enforcement is taking steps to encourage attendees to designate a sober driver before they arrive. The goal is to keep local roads free from the dangers of drink and drug driving. Karen, a police constable and Perranporth’s beat manager, highlighted the collaborative efforts with event organisers to maintain safety and provide visible police presence throughout the festival.
Visible Police Presence
The neighbourhood police team will be on-site for the duration of the festival to support the security team and provide reassurance to festival-goers. The police’s presence is not just about law enforcement but also about ensuring everyone can enjoy the event without the disruption of anti-social behaviour.
Zero Tolerance for Drink and Drug Driving
Karen emphasized the zero-tolerance policy towards drink and drug driving. Police patrols will monitor key exit routes from the festival to prevent any offences. She advised attendees against driving under the influence, reminding them of the severe risks involved, not just legally but also to personal safety and that of others.
Stay Safe and Report Concerns
Festival attendees are urged to report any suspicious activity or anti-social behaviour to the police patrolling the area or to event security. In cases where there is an immediate risk to life, attendees should not hesitate to dial 999, or use the non-emergency number 101 for less urgent matters. Anonymous reports can also be made through Crimestoppers.
This proactive policing approach is aimed at keeping the event enjoyable and safe for everyone, maintaining the record of no serious incidents at the festival from previous years while addressing any traffic offences in the surrounding areas promptly.
Connect and Stay Updated
For further updates and information, attendees and residents can check the ‘Truro, Tregony and Perranporth Police‘ Facebook page, which will provide ongoing updates and information regarding the festival.
This approach by Devon and Cornwall Police shows their commitment to ensuring that Tunes in the Dunes remains a safe and enjoyable event for everyone involved. By planning ahead and making responsible choices, festival-goers can contribute to the safety and success of the event.
