Devon & Cornwall Police Engage Communities in Liskeard to Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour During Neighbourhood Policing Week
Devon & Cornwall Police have successfully concluded a series of community engagement events across Liskeard, Torpoint, Saltash, and Looe during Neighbourhood Policing Week 2024. The initiative aimed to strengthen ties with the community and address the pressing issue of anti-social behaviour, among others.
The week-long event, part of a national effort to highlight the work of neighbourhood policing teams, saw a variety of activities designed to bring police forces closer to the communities they serve. In Torpoint, a significant gathering took place at the Torpoint library where the local neighbourhood team, together with Cornwall Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Caseworker Kat James, discussed strategies to combat anti-social behaviour. Neighbourhood Beat Manager Hayley Gething underscored the ongoing partnership with Cornwall Council to provide targeted patrols and interventions to maintain peace and safety.
The campaign also saw proactive efforts to curb road traffic incidents. In Looe, the neighbourhood policing team collaborated with the Community Speed Watch Team for speed checks along the A387 at Widegates, leading to seventeen drivers being advised on their speeding. This volunteer-led initiative underscores the community’s role in promoting road safety.
Saltash hosted a ‘Have Your Say’ meeting at the Community Kitchen, offering a platform for residents to voice their concerns directly to their local policing team, represented by PCs Katie Hall and Pete Holland, and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Julia Peggs. This event highlighted the police’s commitment to being accessible and responsive to community needs.
In Liskeard, a pop-up community event at Morrisons provided a unique opportunity for shoppers to engage with officers and Safer Cornwall representatives, discussing a broad range of issues from crime to community safety. The initiative, set to continue monthly, exemplifies the collaborative effort between Safer Liskeard agencies and the police to address community concerns.
Inspector David Ratcliff praised the week’s activities for facilitating direct dialogue between the police, partner agencies, and the community. The feedback and information gathered will be used to tailor responses to the community’s needs, with a focus on tackling anti-social behaviour and serious crimes effectively.
Neighbourhood Policing Week, running from January 22nd to January 26th, 2024, celebrated the critical role of neighbourhood policing teams across the country in safeguarding communities. The events across Liskeard, Looe, Saltash, and Torpoint underscored Devon & Cornwall Police’s dedication to community engagement and crime prevention.
For ongoing updates and to engage with local neighbourhood teams, residents are encouraged to visit the Devon & Cornwall Police website and follow their local teams on social media. The police also urge the public to utilise their reporting services for non-urgent crimes or to share information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
