Davidstow Dodges Disruption: Police Prevent Large Unlicensed Music Event
In a decisive action last night (30 March 2024), officers from Devon & Cornwall Police successfully disrupted and halted plans for a large unlicensed music event in the Davidstow area.
The operation unfolded as hundreds of vehicles began congregating, drawing attention and prompt response from the authorities.
Swift Action on Gathering Reports
The situation began to escalate shortly before midnight when reports came in of cars assembling in Davidstow. These were not isolated incidents; convoys of hundreds of vehicles were spotted across North and East Cornwall, indicating a large-scale event was in the offing. In response, the police implemented strategic roadblocks, effectively preventing any more attendees from accessing the site.
Equipment Seized, Vehicles Turned Away
Further to blocking access, officers took decisive steps to seize vans loaded with music equipment, crucial in stopping the event from proceeding. Vehicles attempting to join the gathering were also stopped and directed away from the area. A notable incident involved an officer’s car being rammed by a determined attendee trying to gain access to the site, underscoring the challenges faced during the operation.
Commitment to Community Well-being
Rob Youngman, the Local Policing Superintendent, highlighted the police’s dedication to protecting local communities from the disturbances such events can cause. The swift and comprehensive action was a testament to the force’s readiness to act on intelligence and curb potential disruptions. “Last night we acted quickly on information that was coming into us and deployed a range of resources across the area in order to stop this event from taking place here,” he said.
Rob expressed his gratitude towards the community members who reported the gathering and praised the officers for their quick and firm response. This incident serves as a reminder of the impact unlicensed events can have on local communities and the importance of cooperation between the public and the police in maintaining order and safety.
