Devon & Cornwall Police in Plymouth channel seized funds into charity support

Devon & Cornwall Police in Plymouth have turned seized criminal money into a force for good, funding 25 food boxes to support vulnerable individuals. A total of £750, taken from criminal activity, was donated to Devon and Cornwall Food Action (DCFA), a charity dedicated to redistributing food to those in need.

Supporting Vulnerable People

The money will be used to provide essential items, including food, toiletries, and hygiene products, to those who cannot afford them. The police will have access to these boxes while on duty, ensuring they can distribute them to people in need.

PC David Brooks praised the use of criminal funds to benefit the community. He also expressed his gratitude to the volunteers at DCFA, recognising their hard work and dedication to tackling food poverty across the region.

Tackling Food Poverty

DCFA is on a mission to eradicate food poverty in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall. The charity works with food producers and supermarkets to ensure food reaches those who need it most. Among those supported by DCFA, 82% are in paid employment, but factors such as high property costs, addiction, and illness can still push people into food poverty.

The charity works closely with community groups to identify those in desperate need of support. For more information about DCFA and their work, you can visit Devon and Cornwall Food Action’s website.

Reinvesting Criminal Funds

The funding for the food boxes came from the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), which allows police to reinvest money seized from criminal activity into the community. Devon & Cornwall Police in Plymouth are actively using these funds to support various local groups, projects, and charities.
