Warning Issued After Crantock Sand Dunes Declared ‘Extremely Dangerous’
Crantock Surf Life Saving Club has issued a stark warning to beachgoers after the recent super high Spring tides have rendered the sand dunes at Crantock Beach extremely dangerous and unstable.
Sand Dunes Pose Serious Risk
The club shared a video on social media, highlighting the perilous state of the dunes. While the video does not capture the full extent of the instability, it clearly shows significant sand falls. The sand above the dunes is described as “extremely unstable,” with further significant collapses reported.
Authorities are urging visitors to keep a safe distance from the dunes and to resist any temptation to walk, climb, or dig in the area. The warning extends to pet owners and families, with a specific plea to ensure that dogs and children are kept well clear of the danger zone.
Emergency Response Preparedness
In the event of an incident on the dunes that requires assistance, the Crantock Surf Life Saving Club advises immediate action. The public is instructed to call 999 and request the Coastguard and Fire and Rescue services if they witness any accidents or emergencies in the area.
This warning comes as a precautionary measure following the tidal events that have significantly destabilised the dunes, posing a serious risk to public safety.
Beachgoers are urged to heed these warnings and exercise extreme caution while enjoying Crantock Beach.
