Christmas Cheer Awaits at Crantock’s Bowgie Inn: Free Festive Event for Locals
The Bowgie Inn in Crantock is inviting locals to share in the festive spirit this December with a free Christmas event designed to bring the community together. On Wednesday 11th December, from 11am to 5pm, the pub will host a special ‘Christmas Community Catch-up’, offering free hot tea or coffee and mince pies to all attendees.
Sally Pickles, owner and landlady of the Bowgie Inn, shared her vision for the event: “It’s all about sharing some festive spirit, especially for the older members of our community who may not have the opportunity to get out and about or to socialise regularly.”
The event aims to encourage connection among locals, with Sally emphasising the importance of pubs in rural areas as spaces for social interaction and support.
Festive Fun for All Ages
In addition to free refreshments, the Bowgie Inn has a host of festive activities planned to brighten the season. Guests will be greeted with Christmas music, magical decorations—including 8ft Christmas trees throughout the pub—and fun activities for children such as colouring. A giant Santa and a gift wrapping station add to the festive atmosphere.
The gift wrapping station, stocked with wrapping paper, tape, scissors, and ribbon, offers a chance for visitors to turn a chore into a festive activity. “We invite our customers to bring their gifts to Bowgie to wrap their parcels whilst enjoying great company and a mulled cider or two,” said Sally.
Extra Incentives and Charity Support
To add even more excitement, customers who arrive between 11am-12pm or 3-4pm on the day of the event will be entered into a Christmas prize draw.
Beyond the special day, the Bowgie Inn is offering a month-long festive experience, including Christmas drinks like cocktails, mulled cider, and boozy hot chocolates, as well as festive Sunday roasts and homemade cakes. The pub also provides gift vouchers and Bowgie-branded merchandise, perfect for present ideas.
A weekly ‘Star Giveaway’ competition during Sunday Roasts adds to the festive fun. Diners can win prizes by finding a lucky star on their plate, with non-winning stars resulting in a 50p donation to Cornwall Hospice Care.
“We’re proud to be playing our role in building a kinder, closer, and more connected community,” Sally added. “Pubs are more than just places to eat and drink; they are community spaces where relationships are nurtured and new connections are made.”
