West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team Swaps Rope for Waves in Coastal Adventure
Members of the West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team traded their usual rescue drills for a weekend of coasteering in North Cornwall. The voluntary rescue crew, known for their year-round dedication, took a break from their demanding schedules to enjoy some time together outside of training.
Combining Adventure with Team Spirit
Rescue teams undergo extensive training, covering essential skills like navigation, first aid, search techniques, and rope rescue. However, it’s equally important to find time to unwind. Coasteering provided the perfect escape, offering team members a chance to bond through adventure. The group was guided by Newquay Activity Centre, with team member Elliot overseeing the organisation of the event.
Search and Rescue – More Than Just Saving Lives
While West Cornwall Search & Rescue’s commitment is serious and often stressful, their members are also part of a wider community of like-minded individuals who work with organisations such as Mountain Rescue England and Wales, Lowland Rescue, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and the RNLI. Volunteering in such groups offers opportunities to meet new friends while giving back to the community.
For those inspired by this adventure, it’s important to remember that coasteering should only be done as part of an organised group, with the right personal protective equipment (PPE) in place.
