In a commendable effort to refine their expertise, drivers from the East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team (ECSRT) recently dedicated a day to advance their 4×4 driving skills.

The team, known for their relentless dedication to providing inland search and rescue services, took their vehicles through rigorous tests in a variety of challenging conditions. This training session was made possible thanks to the generous support of Imerys Ceramics, which provided access to one of its decommissioned sites.

Vital Training for Lifesaving Missions

The ECSRT’s commitment to excellence and readiness was on full display as their drivers manoeuvred through the demanding terrain of the Imerys site. This hands-on experience is invaluable, ensuring that the team’s response capabilities are sharp and efficient in real-life rescue operations. The ECSRT expressed profound gratitude towards Imerys Ceramics for this unique opportunity, highlighting the importance of community support in enhancing their lifesaving skills.

A Call to Support Local Heroes

The East Cornwall SRT operates entirely on a voluntary basis, providing crucial search and rescue services not just in East Cornwall but also in other areas when necessary. Their work, often life-saving, involves locating, assisting, and rescuing lost, missing, or injured individuals in various terrains and situations. Given the voluntary nature of the team, public support plays a critical role in maintaining and improving these vital services.

There are several ways the public can contribute to the ECSRT’s mission. By shopping through the easyfundraising platform at easyfundraising.org.uk/eastcornwallsrt, supporters can make purchases from online shops that in turn donate a portion of the proceeds to the team, at no extra cost to the buyer. Additionally, donations and the organization of fundraising events are welcomed through Givey.com/eastcornwallsrt, offering a direct route to support the team’s ongoing efforts.

A Reminder for Emergencies

In situations that demand immediate rescue services, the public is reminded to dial 999 and request Mountain Rescue through the Devon and Cornwall Police. This ensures a swift and coordinated response to emergencies, underscoring the crucial partnership between the community, emergency services, and volunteer rescue teams like the ECSRT.

Through rigorous training, community engagement, and a steadfast commitment to their cause, the East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team continues to stand ready to aid those in need. Their recent training day not only marks an enhancement of their operational capabilities but also serves as a reminder of the critical role volunteer organisations play in public safety and well-being.
