Are you ready to face the heat? Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is opening its doors to aspiring firefighters with a series of “Have a Go” events designed to give potential recruits a taste of the job.

Try Out the Gear and Get a Feel for the Role

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is gearing up for its September recruitment drive and is inviting members of the public aged 18 or over to attend these events. Participants will have the opportunity to try on firefighting gear, engage in practical activities, and explore the fire station. These sessions are tailored to provide insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of a firefighter and the fitness levels required for the job.

Chief Fire Officer Kath Billing expressed hope that these taster sessions will help attendees gain a clearer understanding of the role and the recruitment process.

A Call for Diversity in the Ranks

Antony Bartlett, Assistant Chief Fire Officer and Diversity and Inclusion Lead at Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, highlighted the importance of diversity in the workforce. Antony stated that embracing differences within the team is crucial for delivering the best service to the community. He encouraged individuals from all backgrounds who are seeking a new challenge to consider a career in firefighting.

The “Have a Go” events are scheduled to take place at various community fire stations across Cornwall:
