West Cornwall Residents: New Bins Are on the Way!

Published On: 16 April 2024Last Updated: 16 April 2024By

Residents of West Cornwall, it’s time to make space for new waste disposal equipment as Cornwall Council rolls out the third phase of their updated waste management service. Over the coming weeks, households in Penzance, Marazion, Sennen, and other nearby areas will receive new bins to enhance and simplify recycling and waste disposal.

What’s New?

1. Kitchen Caddy for Food Scraps
Each household will receive a handy kitchen caddy, a small, convenient bin designed to collect food scraps. This caddy aims to make food recycling a breeze and comes with a starter pack of compostable liners, promoting cleanliness and sustainability.

2. Outdoor Caddy for Food Waste Collection
To complement the indoor caddy, residents will also be provided with an outdoor caddy. This larger container should be used to store food waste outside the home and is ideal for curbside collection.

3. Wheelie Bins and Reusable Sacks
Most homes will be equipped with a new wheelie bin, which will serve as the primary receptacle for regular rubbish. For properties where wheelie bins are impractical, the council will provide reusable protective sacks that serve the same purpose without compromising on efficiency.

Continued Commitment to Recycling

While these new bins are being introduced, residents are encouraged to keep using their existing coloured recycling bags and boxes. The aim is to ensure that the transition is smooth and that recycling rates remain high.

Stay Informed

Cornwall Council is committed to keeping residents updated every step of the way. A “Get Set” leaflet, containing all the necessary information about the new bins and the collection service, will be distributed to each household. Residents can also find updates and more detailed information by visiting the council’s website.

Coverage Area

This phase of the waste service rollout will affect various towns and their surrounding areas, including:

  • Penzance
  • Marazion
  • Sennen
  • St Buryan
  • St Just
  • St Ives
