Cornwall’s Health Visitors Achieve Unprecedented 12-Year Streak of Superb Care for New Moms!
Cornwall Council’s dedicated health visitors have received high praise for providing an exceptional level of care to new mothers and pregnant women. UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) recently conducted a reassessment of the health visiting team, and their verdict speaks volumes about the team’s commitment to excellence.
Twelve Years of Consistently High Standards
In a remarkable achievement, Cornwall’s health visiting team has maintained consistently high standards for an impressive 12 years since their first assessment in 2012. This longevity underscores their unwavering dedication to ensuring the well-being of mothers and their babies.
UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Initiative
UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) aims to support maternity, neonatal, health visiting, and children’s center services in providing the best possible care to families, with a special focus on infant feeding and nurturing strong parent-baby relationships. Services that successfully implement the “Baby Friendly” standards receive the prestigious Baby Friendly award, a nationally recognised symbol of exceptional care.
Rigorous Assessments and Glowing Reviews
The BFI assessments are comprehensive and include interviews with staff members, parents, and caregivers, as well as in-person visits to support groups and drop-in sessions. The assessors were impressed by the Cornwall health visiting team’s dedication, stating, “Staff are commended for their work to maintain the standards established.” The assessors added, “It was clear to the assessment team that pregnant women and new mothers receive a very high standard of care.”
Exceptional Staff with Excellent Communication Skills
The assessors were especially impressed with the professionalism and kindness of the health visitors. They noted, “The staff we interviewed were without exception sensitive and kind with excellent communication skills. They displayed genuine enthusiasm towards supporting babies, mothers, and families in their care.”
Heartfelt Praise from Grateful Mothers
Mothers across Cornwall are singing the praises of the health visitors. An overwhelming 96% of mothers reported that the staff were kind and considerate to them and their families. Comments from parents included heartwarming remarks like “My health visitor bends over backwards to support me” and “The infant feeding team need medals – they are angels.”
Council’s Commitment to Child Well-being
Cllr Barbara Ellenbroek, cabinet member for children and families at Cornwall Council, expressed her pride in the team’s accomplishments, saying, “It is great news that BFI assessors have once again acknowledged the hard work and dedication of our fantastic health visitors.” She emphasised the vital role these professionals play in making Cornwall an excellent place for children to grow up.
