Cornwall Council has issued a reminder to Mid-Cornwall residents about the proper usage of their new waste and recycling bins. This reminder comes as part of the council’s ongoing effort to implement an efficient waste management system across Cornwall. The key points highlighted in the post are as follows:
- Food Waste Caddies: The council detailed what should go into the new food waste caddies:
- All uneaten food and plate scrapings
- Dairy products, including cheese, eggs, and eggshells
- Bread, cakes, and pastries
- Both raw and cooked meat and fish, including bones
- Tea/coffee bags (including non-biodegradable) and coffee grounds
- Raw and cooked vegetables, fruits, and their peelings
- Rice, pasta, and beans
- Uneaten wet and dry pet food (excluding pet waste)
- Non-Recyclable Items: The council also reminded residents about items that should not be placed in the food waste caddies:
- Plastic carrier bags, food packaging, and non-compostable liners
- Large amounts of liquid, oils, and fats
- Nappies, clinical waste, cat litter, dog poo, or other pet waste
- Garden waste
- Any material that is not food waste
- Usage Instructions: The council provided clear instructions on how to use the caddies:
- Line the silver kitchen caddy with compostable liners to keep it clean
- Empty the kitchen caddy into the green outdoor collection caddy regularly
- Securely close the green collection caddy before placing it at the property’s boundary by 7 am on collection day
- Collection Schedule: Residents were reminded of the collection schedule:
- Weekly collection for food waste
- Fortnightly collection for recycling and rubbish on alternate weeks
- Recycling Week: During recycling weeks, the council will collect:
- Cardboard, paper, plastic and metal packaging, glass, and textiles, along with food waste
- Rubbish Week: On rubbish weeks, food waste might be collected earlier or later than the rubbish/sack.
Cornwall Council’s initiative aims to improve recycling rates and reduce environmental impact. By providing these detailed instructions and reminders, the council hopes to ease the transition for residents to the new waste management system and encourage effective recycling practices in Mid-Cornwall. The success of this program is seen as a critical step in promoting sustainable waste management across the region.
I guess if we have not received the new bins we are not classified as mid-Cornwall
