Cornwall Council has extended its gratitude to the residents of Mid-Cornwall for their enthusiastic participation in the food waste recycling program over the past month. The council reports a significant increase in the recycling volume being collected, attributing this success to the community’s efforts towards building a sustainable Cornwall.

The initiative, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of waste, has been well-received by the community, with many households actively separating their food waste for recycling. The council has provided a reminder for those who have not yet participated, outlining the types of food waste that can be included in the food waste caddies:

  • All uneaten food and plate scrapings
  • Dairy products, including cheese, eggs, and eggshells
  • Bread, cakes, and pastries
  • Raw and cooked meat and bones
  • Tea and coffee bags (including non-biodegradable) and coffee grounds
  • Raw and cooked vegetables, fruit, and peelings
  • Raw and cooked fish and bones
  • Rice, pasta, and beans
  • Uneaten wet and dry pet food (excluding pet waste)

The council encourages residents to visit their website for more tips on food recycling, emphasising the role of each individual in contributing to the environmental well-being of the region. Through continued participation, Cornwall aims to set a precedent for recycling efforts and sustainable living practices across Cornwall.
