Become a Commissioner: New Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fairness Commission Launches Recruitment Drive
The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fairness Commission is seeking its first set of Commissioners, or Representatives, to help make the region fairer and more inclusive.
What is the Fairness Commission?
Launched by the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Leadership Board and the Cornwall Executive Group, the Fairness Commission is a new body dedicated to promoting fairness in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The Commission aims to tackle issues such as health, poverty, and access to opportunities, providing a platform for new thinking and driving meaningful change.
Mirroring similar bodies across the UK, the Commission will work collaboratively with organisations from the public, private, and community sectors. By gathering evidence, analysing findings, and listening to local people, the Commission plans to recommend actionable solutions to the local authority and other stakeholders.
Call for Commissioners
Following the recent appointment of Tanuvi Ethunandan as Chair, the Fairness Commission is now recruiting 10–15 Commissioners to serve for three years, with the possibility of re-selection. Applications are open to anyone with a genuine desire to promote equity and inclusion across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
No prior experience in similar roles is required, making this an accessible opportunity for residents from all walks of life. Speaking about the recruitment drive, Councillor Carol Mould, portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, and a member of the Fairness Commission Development Group, said:
“It is more important than ever for Cornwall to become fairer and more inclusive, and we know there is work to be done in this space.
“Joining the Fairness Commission provides a superb opportunity to roll your sleeves up and get involved in providing equal access to opportunities for the residents of our wonderful county.
“I encourage anyone who is interested to apply to become a Commissioner. No experience in this kind of role is needed, just a sincere desire to improve equity and inclusion across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”
How to Apply
Applications for the role of Commissioner can be submitted through Cornwall Council’s LinkedIn page, with a deadline of 8th December.
The Commission is particularly keen to receive applications from a broad range of individuals and organisations, including local businesses, NGOs, community groups, academic institutions, and representative bodies such as Chambers of Commerce. Those with personal experience of the challenges in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are also encouraged to apply.
For more information about the recruitment process, prospective applicants can email CIOSFairnessCommission@cornwall.gov.uk.
This is a rare opportunity to contribute to meaningful change and help shape a fairer future for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
